VIDEO The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels | Alex Epstein

VIDEO LINKEnergy philosopher Alex Epstein, author of The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels, challenges conventional wisdom about the fossil fuel industry and argues that if we look carefully at the positives and negatives of all our energy alternatives, we have a moral obligation to use more fossil fuels, not less....

De-Globalization and the Clean Energy Transition

This year’s top 10 list offers Sprott’s thoughts on what will likely drive markets in the coming year and decade, from a macro perspective and the vantage of our asset classes: Precious Metals and Energy Transition Materials. We believe the global clean energy transition will grow more urgent as energy markets continue re-ordering and energy security becomes synonymous with national security. The signposts point to a commodity-intensive, inflationary and capital-intensive decade where energy transition materials and precious metals will become far more valued than in the prior market regime....READ FULL ARTICLE...

Calls to ban gas stoves are anti-science, anti-freedom, and anti-energy

Instead of informing us with accurate science about gas stoves so we can make better decisions, anti-fossil fuel activists are distorting scienceCalls to ban gas stoves are anti-science, anti-freedom, and anti-energyInstead of informing us with accurate science about gas stoves so we can make better decisions, anti-fossil fuel activists are distorting science to justify forcing their anti-gas agenda on us. Early 2023 has featured a carefully orchestrated campaign in which: 1. A paper whose lead author is an anti-fossil-fuel activist claims that gas stoves cause 12.7% of child asthma. 2. The Federal government and NY proposed bans on new gas stoves. We should reject this campaign.1 The campaign against gas stoves should be rejected for 3 reasons: 1. Families have the right to...

My Energy Story

IntroductionThe most frequent question I get asked is: “How did you end up doing this?”Most people can’t imagine why or how someone would become a huge champion of fossil fuels, of all things. And growing up, I never imagined I would devote my life to this cause. So, for those of you who are interested, here’s what happened.Part 1: Deciding to become a practical philosopher Sometimes people assume that I became a fossil fuel champion due to some combination of 1) fossil fuel industry money and 2) my personal background—e.g., my family was involved in fossil fuels, or I grew up in some pro-fossil fuel area. Both couldn’t be more wrong.I became a fossil fuel champion before I even knew anyone in the industry, let alone had a financial connection.I had no family connection to fossil fuels. And I...

Talking Points on the Texas Electricity Crisis

Quick Summary For the last decade+ policy in TX and in the US has been focused on mandating or subsidizing as much wind and solar as possible. TX has bragged about being the biggest wind generator in the US.1 The TX focus on wind has come above all at the expense of coal, which has the resiliency advantage (along with nuclear) of being able to store large quantities of fuel onsite; gas mostly requires "just in time" delivery from pipelines. “In 2009, coal-fired plants generated nearly 37 percent of the state’s electricity while wind provided about 6 percent. Since then, three Texas coal-fired plants have closed...In the same period, our energy consumption rose by 20 percent.”2 Because intermittent wind and solar can always go near zero--as we saw recently in TX--they don't replace the cost...

End preferences for unreliable electricity

Today's grids are being ruined by systemic preferences for unreliable electricity:1) no price penalty for being unreliable2) huge subsidies for unreliables3) mandates for unreliablesCongress should end these now The OpportunityAmerica, given its combination of abundant domestic energy resources, technological ingenuity, and free-market competition, has the potential to have the best grid in the world—providing electricity that is low-cost, ultra-reliable, and increasingly clean. The ProblemAlthough America could have world-leading electricity, the American grid is instead becoming a national embarrassment—with rising costs and mounting reliability problems, most problematically in California and Texas but now spreading around the country.1The causeA root cause of America’s cost and...

The fusion distraction

The “green energy” movement is celebrating a technical breakthrough in nuclear fusion, in order to distract from the catastrophic consequences of its anti-fission, anti-fossil-fuel policies. The green energy movement, including the Biden Administration, is celebrating a technical breakthrough in nuclear fusion, in order to distract from the catastrophic consequences of its anti-fission, anti-fossil-fuel policies. In its first 2 years the Biden administration, through its anti-fossil fuel policies, has helped cause the worst energy crisis since the 1970s. Instead of reversing course it’s using a technical breakthrough in fusion to pretend everything is going great.  ...READ FULL ARTICLE...

Our dangerous diesel shortage caused by anti-fossil-fuel politicians

he US is experiencing a dangerous shortage of diesel fuel.Blame our anti-fossil-fuel politicians, who: Prevented us from importing Canadian oil well-suited to our refineries Prevented or shut down diesel-producing capacity in the US Threatened new investments in diesel Diesel is the fuel of heavy-duty vehicles and is many Northeast homes’ source of heat. Prices are high and increasing because: 1) October inventories, which should have been high to prep for winter, were their lowest since records began in 1982. 2) Our ability to import diesel is uncertain.1  READ FULL ARTICLE...

The EPA vs. the grid

A reliable grid is foundational to our quality of life. Our lives depend on ultra-reliable electricity for the refrigerators that preserve our food, the water treatment plants that keep our water drinkable, the air conditioning that keeps us cool, the factories that produce our goods, etc.Ominously, America’s grid is in its most fragile state in decades. Not only have we witnessed ruinous blackouts in California and Texas, electricity shortages are now routine throughout the US.Federal Electric Reliability Commission (FERC) Commissioner Mark Christie: “We’re heading for a reliability crisis.”The root cause of the reliability crisis is simple: America is shutting down too many reliable power plants—plants that can be controlled to produce electricity when needed in the exact quantity...
